'Transformers 4' Wants a Female Teenager for its Lead Role?
We have been reporting that Michael Bay plans to go in a completely different direction with his fourth Transformers movie, shuttling trilogy star Shia LaBeouf and possibly introducing new robots (that, as is rumored, can help sell more toys to kids).
Spoiler TV reveals a bit of information as to that direction.
The site says that Bay’s lead will be a girl this time around – specifically, a high school senior who will have a boyfriend, who happens to be a Texas racing driver. Will he end up driving a Transformer? Could that be the couple’s introduction to the science-fiction world of robots in disguise?
While I’m thrilled to hear that a masculine franchise like Transformers could potentially find a strong part for a young actress, Bay’s treatment of women in his popcorn blockbusters has been borderline offensive. And if you believe former Transformers star Megan Fox, he’s very hard on actresses on his sets.
It’s entirely possible that Bay will discover the next Tea Leoni, who gave as well as she received in the director’s first Bad Boys. Plus, our focus for a fourth Transformers movie really should be on the robots. But having a headstrong female character who can hold her own opposite Optimus Prime (providing he returns) would be a welcome change to the franchise. We’ll see how this plays out.
