'Transformers 4' to Cast Chinese Actors via Reality Show

No, that's not a bogus headline. THR reports that Transformers 4 will cast four Chinese actors in leading roles from a new reality competition show called, quite plainly, Transformers 4 Chinese Actor Talent Search. The show will air in China in June offering the producers of the show plenty of time to come up with a better title.

Meanwhile, the jury for the show will include former Academy of Motion Pictures arts and Sciences head Sid Ganis, Transfomers 4 producer Lorenzo DiBonaventura, casting director Denise Chapman and Paramount's marketing and distribution chief Megan Colligan. Who knows, maybe Michael Bay will cameo on one of the episodes.

Paramount announced that the film would be a co-production with China's Jiaflix Enterprises (led by Ganis) and China Movie Production a few weeks ago. The Transformers movies are among the most popular films ever released in China and Bay is subsequently one of the most popular directors in the country.

Transformers 4 will star Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor and recently added Stanley Tucci who continues to add to his stockpile of franchise movies. Tucci is slated to appear in both the latest Hunger Games and Percy Jackson movies this year.

Transformers 4 is slated to arrive in theaters on June 27, 2014.
