Trailers: 'The Pirates! A Band of Misfits,' '11-11-11' and Miyazaki’s 'The Secret World of Arriety'

The Pirates!

Sony Animation is banking on this family adventure flick to continue their upward swing in box office success. They’ve released four movies thus far, the most recent and successful being the $550 million grossing Smurfs a few months ago. Arthur Christmas will screen before The Pirates! with a Thanksgiving weekend release date, but the clips and trailers from this 3D stop-motion movie that boasts voice work from Hugh Grant, Salma Hayek and David Tennant and created by Aardman Animations (the guys that brought us Wallace and Gromit) looks promising. Check out the new UK trailer below. The Pirates! A Band of Misfits opens March 20, 2012 domestically.

Since the Saw franchise came to a close, writer-director Darren Lynn Bousman has been looking for his next buzz-worthy movie. Since Saw, he’s remade the 1980 Lloyd Kaufman movie Mother’s Day and the horror-rock opera Repo! The Genetic Opera! While neither managed to really take off, he’s hoping to build some buzz with the gimmicky-titled 11-11-11 which opens, when else? November 11. Whether this horror-thriller manages to find an audience that will be split between Immortals and J. Edgar remains to be seen. Take a look at the latest trailer below.

The latest Hayao Miyazaki animated feature film gets the English-dubbing treatment and is set to hit theaters February 17. The story of four-inch tall "little people" who live in another family’s residence borrowing simple items to make their home won the Best Animated Film award from the Japanese Academy Awards (essentially their Oscars). Check out the first domestic trailer below.
