Trailer Watch: ‘Monsters’, ‘Dylan Dog’ and ‘Love and Other Drugs’
Could Monsters become this fall’s big genre underdog? Based on the reactions from different film festivals, it certainly seems like that may be the case. Directed by newcomer Gareth Edwards, Monsters, like District 9, takes a look at what it would be like if alien monsters lived among us, but quarantined off in a certain area until government can figure out what to do with them. Our film picks up as a jaded journalist is tasked with retrieving his boss’s daughter from the “infected” area and bringing her back home safely. The second trailer for the film was just released and you can watch it below. Monsters hits theaters on October 29th, but will arrive On Demand on September 24th.
Based on the somewhat obscure (to U.S. audiences anyway) Italian horror comics, Dylan Dog stars Brandon Routh (remember him from Superman?) as a paranormal investigator who finds himself entangled with all sorts of wacky creatures – from zombies who buy spare body parts in weird zombie supermarkets to vampires to … whatever it is Taye Diggs is (he’s the villain here, and not all too scary looking either). Routh seems like he’s having a good enough time, though, further proving that – ya know what – maybe he would make for a decent Superman if given better material to work with. Kevin Munroe (TMNT) directed Dylan Dog, and as of now there’s no U.S. release date, though it’s set to hit a few international markets in October. Watch the trailer below and let us know what you think.
Will Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway turn out to be this year’s most adorable on-screen couple? They’re definitely off to a good start in the trailer for Love and Other Drugs, which finds Gyllenhaal returning back to earth following Prince of Persia for a quieter dramedy about a hot-to-trot pharmaceutical rep who meets his match in the love department. I question how much actual “story” there is here, but damn are Gyllenhaal and Hathaway nice to look at on screen. I’d go see this for no other reason than to just to watch them do whatever for two hours. What about you? Watch it below … Love and Other Drugs hits theaters on November 24th.
