Trailer Watch: ‘Battleship,’ ‘A Good Old Fashioned Orgy’ and ‘Pearl Jam 20’

Battleship

Moments after the trailer for Peter Berg’s board game-turned-action flick Battleship had hit the web, pundits went about bashing it much like the giant alien robot thing that bursts through the surface toward the end of the two-minute clip attacks Taylor Kitsch and crew. Granted much of the criticism is legit but Berg’s track record has us holding on to what little bit of hope there is that this movie might not, well, suck. Berg has directed critic and audience favorites including Friday Night Lights, The Kingdom and Hancock. While there is no telling where this movie will fall on the actor/director’s resume of successes, check out the trailer below which stars Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard and Brooklyn Decker. Battleship sails into theaters May 18, 2012.

A Good Old Fashioned Orgy

The synopsis for this one is pretty straightforward; a group of thirty-something friends from high school throw an end-of-the-summer orgy. While visions of 2006’s NC-17 rated Shortbus may float into your mind, writer/directors Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck have opted to focus more on comedy and less of the extended uncensored sex sequences, though the MPAA cautions there is “pervasive strong sexual content and graphic nudity.” The comedy stars Jason Sudeikis and Tyler Labine with Leslie Bibb playing the role of Sudeikis’ love interest. Lucy Punch, Lake Bell, Will Forte and Don Johnson co-star in Orgy which gets a limited release September 2. Wow, I wish I could take that last sentence back.

PJ20

Directed by Cameron Crowe, Pearl Jam Twenty (shortened to PJ20) features never-before-seen footage of Eddie Vedder and his bandmates, along with commentary from Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell and Alice in Chains’ now-deceased Layne Staley, as they adjust to their rise to superstardom. Crowe has brought us previous music documentaries featuring Tom Petty and Alice in Chains, so you could say this is familiar territory for the former Rolling Stone magazine freelancer. The footage and soundtrack look great and this is sure to be a must-see for Pearl fans when it hits theaters sometime in September. Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think.
