William Friedkin certainly has a directing resume that most Hollywood types would be envious of. If you don't know his name, you certainly know the titles he's directed, from The Exorcist, The French Connection, To Live and Die in L.A. and, yes, Blue Chips.
Friedkin returns to feature filmmaking following a five-year hiatus with the NC-17 rated Killer Joe starring Emile Hirsch and Matthew McConaughey. Unlike The Weinstein Company's recent public battles with the MPAA over NC-17 ratings, Friedkin and LD Distribution have taken the Shame route and accepted the scarlet rating.
The MPAA rating reason is as follows: graphic aberrant content involving violence and sexuality, and a scene of brutality.
The film features an excellent group of co-stars including Juno Temple, Thomas Haden Church and Gina Gershon. Killer Joe opens July 27 and has been earning rave reviews for McConaughey's performance. Check out the green band trailer below.
