Trailer: Ben Affleck Saves Lives with Fake Sci-Fi Movie in 'Argo'

A few months ago, the first images from Argo of Ben Affleck in a thick beard appeared on the Web. Now, we get the first trailer for the dramatic thriller that co-stars Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Kyle Chandler and a bunch of other faces you'll almost immediately recognize. The film is also the third film directed by Affleck following 2010's critically lauded The Town.

The film centers on a CIA specialist (Affleck) who concocts a risky plan to free six Americans who have found shelter at the home of the Canadian ambassador as the Iranian revolution is reaching a boiling point.

The thing is, this Argo has a very Wag the Dog feel to it. Granted the reasons for making the fake movie are different, but you can't help but draw that conclusion. Argo doesn't arrive in theaters until October 12, clearly aiming for some kind of dark horse awards run, but based on what you see in the trailer below, do you think it even has a shot?
