Tom Cruise Already Prepping 'Mission: Impossible 5'
Tom Cruise’s days as super spy Ethan Hunt are far from over. Why on earth would they end? His last Mission: Impossible movie broke the $200M mark in the States, and inched close to banking $700M overall after international grosses were counted ($694.7M in all). And Cruise says he’s already thinking about Part Five.
“We’re already working on different images. Talking conceptually,” Cruise confirmed to Total Film about another Mission sequel. The actor first play Hunt back in 1996 when Brian De Palma decided to revive the classic television program as a high-concept, bug-screen franchise. Yet even though he turned 50 on July 3, Cruise shows absolutely no sign of slowing down.
“I love traveling around promoting different movies because I’m always looking at different places, and I always walk around to see the city,” Cruise continued. “I look at architecture, subways ... coming up with different sequences.”
He does seem like a very hands-on contributor to his films, particularly the Mission movies, which mark his only true franchise. Yes, Cruise is attempting to get a new franchise off the ground by playing Jack Reacher, the lead in the adaptations of Lee Child’s novels. But he’s quick to assure fans that Hunt isn’t going anywhere any time soon.
“I’ll make as many as people want to see,” he says, “because they’re very challenging and so much fun to make.”
As you wait for Mission: Impossible 5, you can see Cruise kicking butt in Jack Reacher, which opens in theaters in Dec. 21.
