The Golden Globes have long been considered a barometer for which film will take home the Best Picture Oscar. The annual event, now in its 70th year, hands out awards to the best in television and film. Over the past 20 years, 11 films that won Best Picture in either Drama or Comedy have gone on to win the top prize at the Oscars.
But such a grand event needs a host and this afternoon, we learned via Variety, that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have been chosen as co-hosts. You don't have to doubt the chemistry between these two often-nominated comediennes and SNL veterans.
Fey is a two-time Globe winner for 30 Rock while Poehler was a past nominee for Parks and Recreation. It seems the Hollywood Foreign Press had enough of Ricky Gervais and his cutting and occasionally insulting brand of humor. Gervais hosted the past three Globes.
You can bet that Fey and Poehler will be a breath of fresh air, but the real question is, will you tune in and are you happy with this choice?
The Golden Globes will air on NBC on January 13.
