'The Wolverine' Trailers: Hugh Jackman Slices and Dices Through Ninjas in Vicious Clips

We saw 6 seconds on a Vine reel. We saw a 20-second tease. Finally, Fox reveals a full-length trailer for James Mangold’s The Wolverine … and it sets up what promises to be the best Wolverine movie fans have seen to date. Check out the international trailer that dropped online below:

And shortly after, a domestic trailer dropped with a lot of the same footage, but a few new clips and a different take:

Hugh Jackman and Mangold have been promising fans a darker, grittier Wolverine adventure, and the clip seems to deliver. Set after the latest X-Men movie (The Last Stand), we find Wolverine in isolation as he recovers from the many emotional wounds that plague his existence. But a voice from his past calls him back to Japan, where he once trained, and might find a solution to the mutant gene that has made him both special and indestructible.

The Wolverine opens on July 26 in 2D and 3D theaters. Many believe the ending of Mangold’s movie will feed right into Bryan Singer’s planned X-Men: Days of Future Past, which will be in theaters in 2014. Even if it doesn’t establish any continuity, though, this trailer makes it look like Mangold and Jackman have succeeded in creating a vicious standalone Wolverine movie.

I’m intrigued by what I see, and am fired up for The Wolverine to hit theaters this summer. How about you?
