James Ponsoldt’s The Spectacular Now has been building buzz since it made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival. An adaptation of Tim Tharp’s novel, it tells a heartfelt story about young love between teenagers (Shailene Woodley, Miles Teller) who are at social turning points and trying to figure out their next steps. The film’s first trailer just dropped, and gives you a better idea of what to expect:
Critics praise Woodley and Teller for the honest portrayals they’ve given to Ponsoldt, who tackles some complicated issues (as you can tell in the clip). The director helps them out by surrounding his leads with great talents. Look for Brie Larson, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jennifer Jason Leigh in supporting parts.
A24 also released a one-sheet for Now, which we’re sharing with you below. The movie is opening in select markets on August 2, and will be expanding from there. From everything that we’re hearing, it’s a can’t miss.
