The Other Sundance Film Festival: Drake, Nick Cannon, Tom Cruise's Son and the Top 5 Parties Everyone will be Buzzing About

The 2012 Sundance Film Festival is officially underway, with a handful of films premiering last night around Park City, Utah. As we enter the festival's opening weekend, though, folks are beginning to talk about all the posh parties that will surely dominate the news media come Monday morning. Films? What films? Tom Cruise's son is DJ'ing a party this weekend on Main Street! Sure, these parties may be impossible to get into unless you literally have Ethan Hunt devising a clever plan to get you past the snooty girls handling the guest list at the door, but that doesn't mean we can't tell you about them beforehand.

Here are the festival's top five parties everyone will be buzzing about come Monday morning.

1. Gen Art's 7 Fresh Faces for All Mankind -- This annual party is held Friday night on Main Street, and it's popular because each year they honor seven up-and-coming actors and actresses who are appearing in films at the festival. Why does that make it popular? Um, celebrities! Among those confirmed to be in attendance this year are Alexia Rasmussen (The Comedy and California Solo), Ari Graynor (For A Good Time, Call . . . and Celeste and Jesse Forever), Christopher Abbott (Hello I Must Be Going), Dreama Walker (Compliance), Gina Rodriguez (Filly Brown), Lizzy Caplan (Bachelorette and Save the Date), and Zachary Booth (Keep the Lights On).

2. Vibe at Sundance with Connor Cruise -- Yup, Connor Cruise is the son of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, and he's totally a DJ. Cruise will be spinning at this party on Saturday night at the Sky Blue at Sky Lodge beginning at 9 p.m.

3. Aziz Ansari -- The "Parks and Rec" actor will be performing stand-up at the Sky Lodge on Saturday night.

4. Drake Performance -- Drake (pictured) will be performing around 11:30pm on Saturday night at Tao. Also, Questlove from The Roots will be spinning in the same space later that night.

5. Slipknot party -- Slipknot's M. Shawn Crahan and Corey Taylor are hosting a party Saturday evening to promote Living Breathing Films. The party promises food, a DJ and a a rare acoustic performance. Acoustic Slipknot? This we have to see!

So there are those highly anticipated parties, along with several other bashes. From film parties to events hosted by Playboy (can I get into that one?), if it's hot, fresh and exciting, it will have a presence at the festival. Look for galleries and reports throughout the weekend and all next week. For more extensive coverage of this year's Sundance Film Festival, head over to our friends at
