The Hunger Games Movie News

'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' Unleashes Amazing First Trailer Bursting With New Footage

The good news, Hunger Games fans, is that the first official trailer for Catching Fire is pretty outstanding. The bad news? The movie doesn’t open until November, so you have a little while longer to wait.

Lionsgate whipped Hunger Games fans into a frenzy with a well-placed teaser for its highly anticipated sequel that aired during the MTV Movie Awards Sunday evening. But this wasn’t a 10-second teaser. This was a full-on trailer that shared more footage than I expected, and likely got fans in a fervor for the next chapter in this beloved literary series.

But don’t take our word for it. Watch the trailer yourself right here!

It looks like Katniss and Peeta are in over the heads, paying a steep price for winning the most recent Hunger Games. The clip does an excellent job of setting up President Snow (Donald Sutherland) as the chief nemesis, but also introduces Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee, another threat to Katniss and her crew.

And now, the waiting begins. Not that there won’t be plenty more marketing materials rolling across the Web as Lionsgate keeps the flames of Catching Fire burning. But this initial footage reel was the first shot across the bow of rabid fans. I wonder if they liked it?

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire continues Katniss Everdeen’s exciting journey. Directed by Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend), it will be in theaters on Nov. 22.
