Frontrunners News

'The Help' Is Tops in Our Fourth Annual Fandango Fan Choice Awards

It might be a bit of a surprise to casual Fandango fans, who've bought up tickets en masse to the Twilight and Harry Potter franchises over the years, but in all honesty, it's also kind of refreshing to reveal that in our survey this year of tens of thousands of Fandango moviegoers, the clear winner for the Fandango Fan Choice Award - with a whopping 27% of the vote - is The Help.

And maybe it shouldn't be too much of a surprise. The Help was a big winner at the 2011 box office, and it's picked up lots of critical kudos – and Oscar noms – heading into Academy Awards weekend. Does this bode well for its chances at the ultimate prize? It's already a frontrunner for Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress and a few more categories, so only time will tell.
No matter its Oscar fate, we at Fandango will be proud to bestow the film with our top award at this year's Cinema-Con in Las Vegas during the convention's "Big Screen Achievement Awards" on Thursday, April 26th at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
In addition to the Best Picture Award (and for those keeping track, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 did come in 2nd with 14% of the vote, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 accounted for 3rd place with 9% of the vote), our Fandango users also cast their votes for the following fun awards:
•             Most Mind-Blowing Action Sequences: Transformers: Dark of the Moon
•             Best Movie Dog: Snowy – The Adventures of Tintin
•             The “Women Behaving Badly” Award: Cameron Diaz – Bad Teacher
•             Most Unexpected Surprise – Rise of the Planet of the Apes
•             The Cutest Movie of the Year – The Muppets
While it's a shame we won't be able to hear the Oscar-nominated "Man or Muppet" tune at the actual Oscar ceremony, we're more than happy to give it some kudos as "cutest" of the year. Or "best." You decide. See below for Cameron Diaz and The Muppets songwriters accepting their Fandango awards...

Speaking of Awards, stay tuned, too, to our Awards Watch latest (including our How To Party with Oscar, 2012 Oscar Snubs and the 9 Worst Best Pictures), our upcoming Oscar Twitter Party, tweets live from the scene @FandangoScoop, a liveblog on our sister site Movies.com, and a couple more fun lists of full winners from our sister sites iVillage's 3rd Annual Entertainment Awards and Television Without Pity's Movies Without Pity Awards.
