Universal has a lonnng history with horror movies, spanning way back to genre classics like Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy and all their repective sequels and spinoffs (and let's not forget the Abbott and Costello comedies). So it's only fitting that Universal Studios Hollywood ushered in the park's annual Halloween Horror Nights last Friday with its 6th annual Eyegore Awards, emceed by Lost Boy Corey Feldman.
The material may be dark, but the event itself is light, breezy fun. Horror luminaries like Roger Corman and Tobe Hooper stepped on stage to receive their goblin trophies as a live jazz band played raucous, lounge-y versions of their horror film theme songs and video monitors around the room played scenes from their movies. I was particularly excited to see Julie Benz (who I've followed since Angel and I adore on Dexter) as an honoree, star of the upcoming Saw V.
