That 'Hot Wheels' Movie Has a Director and It Is...

Simon Crane!

OK, you're probably saying, "Who is Simon Crane?" Crane has served as a second-unit director on a number of big-budget Hollywood movies including World War Z, Men in Black 3, Quantum of Solace and upcoming blockbusters Maleficent and Edge of Tomorrow.

Deadline reports that Crane has been in the mix for the directing job on this film for quite some time as Legendary Pictures transitioned partnerships from Warner Bros. to Universal. The film is being written by Paul Attanasio, who scripted critic and audience favorites like Donnie Brasco, Quiz Show and The Sum of All Fears. There is no release date attached to the Hot Wheels movie, an adaptation of the long-running popular Mattel toy line.

Universal certainly has a favorable track record with car-themed movies, most recently with the Fast and Furious franchise. Perhaps some of that luck can rub off on their new partnership with Legendary.

Are you excited to see Hot Wheels make the leap to the big screen? Which Hot Wheels cars do you hope are featured in the film? One thing's for sure, there had better be a megaloop in this movie.
