The official plot synopsis Paramount issued to tease J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek into Darkness promised destruction and devastation on the Enterprise Crew’s home planet of Earth. Today, we’re getting a glimpse into just how bad things will get in the anticipated sequel.
'Star Trek into Darkness' Poster: Who Is That Mysterious Villain?
The first teaser poster for Star Trek into Darkness landed online this morning, showing Benedict Cumberbatch’s still-unidentified villain surveying his wrath. Now, that’s not a subtle hint that Cumberbatch is playing Khan in the sequel. In fact, I think it’s all but certain that he is NOT playing the infamous Trek villain.
What most impresses me is Paramount’s faith in the project, as illustrated by this poster. No Chris Pine. No Zachary Quinto. No glimpse of anything that screams Star Trek (though fans will recognize the Delta insignia formed by the explosive hole put in the poster). Check out the new one-sheet below:
As you likely already know, Paramount plans to show footage from Star Trek into Darkness ahead of The Hobbit on Dec. 14 in 2D, 3D and IMAX. So we’ll have plenty more to discuss as the month rolls on. But this is a solid first step in a lengthy marketing campaign. Bring on the Darkness.
