'Star Trek Into Darkness' Opening Earlier Than Expected

Are you ready to trek Into Darkness one day earlier?
Paramount announced that J.J. Abrams’ sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness, will open in theaters one day earlier than expected, hitting screens on May 16. This move was made in response to the news that many IMAX screenings of the film were selling out in markets such as Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Seattle, Austin, San Francisco, Houston, San Diego and Minneapolis.
Tickets to these May 15 fan-generated screenings are available on the film’s first-of-its-kind movie App, a technology that allows users to delve deeper into the Star Trek universe. They also can be accessed via or through our Web site. While supplies last, all 8:00 p.m. IMAX fan sneak attendees will receive a limited-edition IMAX FANFIX “Star Trek” Gallery 1988 movie print by Mark Englert.
- Excited? It only gets better. Check out New Spock (Zachary Quinto) versus Old Spock (Leonard Nimoy) in “The Challenge,” an Audi commercial that somehow manages to include Nimoy making Wrath of Khan jokes and singing The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins. For a car commercial, it’s pretty great:

- More? You Star Trek fans are demanding. OK, Yahoo Movies released new character profiles for Carol Marcus (Alice Eve), Kirk (Chris Pine) and Sulu (John Cho).

- OK, fine. We have room for one more Into Darkness bit. This Friday, May 10, Facebook will host a Trek chat with Abrams, original cast member George Takei and – for some odd reason – former SNL cast member Andy Samberg. The conversation will be streamed live at at 5:30pm PT / 8:30pm ET. RSVP to watch and participate live on Facebook here:
