A smorgasbord of Star Trek info just launched into cyberspace with EW’s new feature. The eight-page spread gives us the latest on the upcoming J.J. Abrams project, set for release May 8, 2009, and budgeted at $150 million. The exclusive includes new set photos, more on the cast, and a few spoilers about a time-travel plot. Purists, beware: “The movie is about the act of changing what you know,” reveals Damon Lindelof, Lost co-creator and one of Abrams’ Trek collaborators (along with Transformers screenwriters Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman). The storytelling is supposed to be newbie-friendly and still cater to the die-hard follower, so, as 2009 approaches, we’ll have a better gauge of how appealing the upgrade looks to regular moviegoers and "trekkers" (not "trekkies").
