Now that the 2011 Academy Awards are behind us – and we’ve read and watched a number of people compliment and criticize the job done by hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco – it’s time to look ahead and provide the folks who run that giant Oscar ship with some suggestions of our own as to who should host the ceremony next year.
Sound Off: Who Should Host the Oscars Next Year?
First we need to look at whether the whole two-host thing works. I personally don’t like it because it really comes down to chemistry, and when you have only a little time to rehearse it’s hard to form the sort of one-two punch you’d need to be successful with a hosting duo. So, if I were in charge, next year I’d take it back to one host who’s multi-talented and can not only spew out some fantastic one-liners, but can also participate in a fun musical number or two.
This year the Oscars skewed younger in order to try to reel in some of the kids who tune in to shows like the Grammys and MTV Movie Awards. We expect them to continue this trend next year (even though ratings dropped), so chances are we’ll see another young, hip host who has the ability to speak to a generation.
Me? I’d like to see Robert Downey Jr. up there, or someone as charismatic and confident as he is. Both Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel are fun to watch as well, and always come up with great sketches for their respective late-night shows. Hopefully they’ll go that route and not bring on Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson to co-host, which is a suggestion I’m sure someone over there has made at least twice.
What about you? Sound off and let us know who you think should host the Oscars next year.
