After many years of delays, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For finally began filming last October and was slated to arrive in theaters on October 4, 2013. It seems almost fitting then that the release of the film has been delayed to August 22, 2014.
No official reason was given by Dimension Films or director Robert Rodriguez for the delay, although this does conceivably scratch Rodriguez from participating in Comic-Con in a few weeks. There is still an outside chance that he may make a quick stop to promo his other sequel Machete Kills and if so, we may learn the reason for the delay.
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For blends together two of Frank Miller's classic stories with a couple new stories. The film, like most of Rodriguez films, features an eclectic cast including Josh Brolin, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Eva Green, Jeremy PIven, Jamie Chung, Ray Liotta, Stacy Keach and Juno Temple, to name a few.
Strategically, the new release date actually works better for the film. The only competition it faces is The Expendables 3, which releases August 15 and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, which hits August 1.
Are you disappointed that the film got bumped into summer 2014?
