Shailene Woodley has broken out as one of the hottest talents in Hollywood. Already in talks to play Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Deadline reports that Woodley is now closing in on a deal for the lead role in an adaptation of YA fiction best-seller Divergent.
The Veronica Roth novel is being adapted for the big screen by Summit Entertainment with Neil Burger directing. The film has a March 21, 2014 release date locked down, but the bigger question is if Woodley signs on, will this knock her out of the running for Amazing Spider-Man 2. Granted, there's no telling how large a role Watson plays in the storyline of Amazing Spider-Man 2 and if her scenes are limited, it is certainly feasible that she could still act in both films.
Divergent has drawn comparisons to The Hunger Games due to the age of the characters and the violence that takes place in a futuristic setting. The story follows a 16-year-old as she leaves her faction to join a rival group, but during the violent initiation, she falls in love with a young man and together they try to find their place in the rough, dystopian world.
Divergent fans, do you think Woodley is the perfect actress for the role or would you cast another, young actress for the part?
