Sequels: 'Man of Steel' Sequel, 'Star Trek 2' Moves Toward Production and Chris Tucker Sparks Buzz For Another 'Friday'

Superman Sequel

Looking to fill the summer gap that will be left now that Harry Potter and The Dark Knight franchises are coming to a close, Warner Bros. is looking to fill its upcoming tentpole rosters by pressing forward with a sequel to Zack Snyder's Superman reboot Man of Steel.
Warner Bros. already has folks working on Sherlock Holmes 3 and Clash of the Titans 3 as they look to fill their 2013 and 2014 summer schedule. The studio's 2013 roster currently features sequels to 300, Austin Powers and the second part of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit. Beyond that, the studio only has a live-action Pinocchio prequel slated for release.
Names currently being tossed around to write the Superman movie include Steve Kloves, Travis Beacham and Lawrence Kasdan. Kloves penned the Harry Potter franchise for Warner Bros. as well as the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man for Sony and Warner's live-action Akira. Beacham wrote Clash of the Titans and Pacific Rim for Warner Bros. and Kasdan co-wrote Episodes V and VI of the Star Wars franchise as well as Raiders of the Lost Ark, among other movies.
Though we have to wait and see what Synder has in store for us in 2013, does the pedigree of this trio of writers promise an enjoyable and successful sequel?
Star Trek 2
Having been in development for quite some time now, the second Star Trek movie is set to begin filming January 15. Collider reports that location scouting, which began last month, continues with the crew currently looking at Hawaii as a potential site for scenes set on a jungle planet. Additionally, an unnamed source hinted that a Los Angeles museum could serve as a stand-in for "a famous Star Trek location."
On the story side, things seem to be progressing as well. Abrams has said all along that he wanted to get the story nailed down before turning his attention to ancillary details like wardrobe, special effects, etc. Writer Roberto Orci confirms that the script has been done for a while and that he, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof are currently working on a third draft, looking to polish the script and keep it within budget.
"Rewriting is a good thing which normally makes a script better. We like to keep pushing the script, even if no one gives us notes," Orci said.
Casting has also begun on some new roles. A couple weeks ago, Benicio del Toro was announced as a possible villain, though the exact character was never revealed. The sequel looks to hit theaters summer 2013 or possibly later.
Another Friday
While chatting with Tiny Lister, DeBo in the Friday series, TMZ managed to scoop word that Chris Tucker was in serious talks with Ice Cube to reprise his role as Smokey in another Friday movie. Tucker shot to superstardom playing the pot-obsessed Smokey in the original Friday back in 1995 but then refused to appear in any of the sequels citing religious reasons.
Now it seems with mounting money problems and an essentially dormant career, the actor is having second thoughts, having flown Lister out to L.A. to discuss the possibility of getting the original Friday crew back together.
Lister said that Tucker and Cube have, "a big pow-wow," set for next week to discuss a fourth movie adding, "This is gonna be the big one."
Would you be down for more Friday?
