Sequels: FOX, Andy Serkis Lock Down Deal For More 'Apes,' Warner Bros. Moves Forward with 'Clash of the Titans 3'

FOX, Andy Serkis Lock Down Deal For More Apes

It's a good day to be Andy Serkis. The actor whose become synonymous with motion-capture CGI acting has locked down a, "healthy seven-figure deal" with FOX to reprise his role of Caesar in what Deadline is reporting as, "multiple future installments in the Apes series."

Not only is Serkis guaranteed to return for more Apes movies, but FOX has said the studio will wage an Oscar campaign on behalf of Serkis.

Serkis was lauded for his performance as Gollum in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy, but received no Oscar recognition for his work. He re-teamed with Jackson for The Hobbit and will also reprise his role of Captain Haddock for The Adventures of Tintin sequel which Jackson will direct next year.

Director Rupert Wyatt will also return as his original deal came with a sequel option. Writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver will also return, though James Franco and Freida Pinto are still questionable. Their involvement will depend on what kind of story the writers and FOX construct.

Other actors that are generating strong Oscar buzz and could contend with Serkis include Leonardo DiCaprio (J.Edgar), Gary Oldman (Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy), George Clooney (The Descendants), Brad Pitt (Moneyball) and Jean Dujardin (The Artist).

Warner Bros. Moves Forward with Clash of the Titans 3

Warner Bros. is moving forward with a third Clash of the Titans movie, bringing two writers from the yet-to-be-released Titans sequel on board to pen a treatment.

The third Titans movie will reportedly feature Sam Worthington's Perseus as its protagonist and pick up where Wrath of the Titans ends. The Hollywood Repoter reports that Wrath, "leaves the door open," for Poseidon's demigod son Agenor (Toby Kebbell) to return in the third film, though they caution that neither Worthington or Kebbell have officially signed on to reprise their respective roles.

Wrath director Jonathan Liebesman is expected to return for the third movie, though no deal is currently in place.

Moving forward with a third movie before the sequel has screened isn't new for Warner Bros. The studio recently brought on Iron Man 3 writer Drew Pearce to pen a third Sherlock Holmes movie featuring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.

Wrath of the Titans is due to arrive in theaters March 30, 2012.
