Sequels: 'Death Race 3' Revs Up Plus New 'Underworld: Awakening' Images

Though the end of the first Death Race movie painted a happily-ever-after picture, it is clear Universal Home Entertainment isn't content with just one prequel movie (Death Race 2). A third Race has been announced, set in Cape Town, South Africa.

The premise is essentially the same – hardened criminals race for their freedom in new vehicles. Frankenstein, the greatest Death Racer of them all, is back. Luke Goss reprises the role, this time taking the wheel to save his pit crew, comprised of Death Race 2 stars Danny Trejo, Frank Koehler and Joe Vaz. Ving Rhames also returns to antagonize Frankenstein.
Here's the official synopsis released by Universal:
"Convicted cop-killer Carl Lucas (Goss), aka Frankenstein, is a superstar driver in the brutal prison yard demolition derby known as Death Race. Only one victory away from winning freedom for himself and his pit crew, Lucas is plunged into an all-new competition more vicious than anything he has experienced before. Pitted against his most ruthless adversaries ever, Lucas fights to keep himself and his team alive in a race in South Africa's infernal Kalahari Desert. With powerful forces at work behind the scene to ensure his defeat, will Lucas' determination to win at all costs mean the end of the road for him?"
The first Death Race starred Jason Statham and was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. On the strength of $75 million worldwide, the Statham-less prequel was released last year. Are you up for an extension of that second movie? Or should Frankenstein's last ride end in the Kalahari?
Speaking of heat, two new images for Underworld: Awakening have been released, including one of Kate Beckinsale's Selene dodging a flame thrower. Also, we get another look at series newcomer Michael Ealy, below. Underworld: Awakening arrives January 20.
