Scoop This: Whitaker and Mackie Do Voodoo, Miley Cyrus' God Comedy and Ben Foster Joins The 'Gotti' Family

Whitaker and Mackie Do Voodoo Horror

Talk about two careers going in opposite directions. After winning the Best Actor Oscar four years ago, Forest Whitaker has seen a string of misses at the box office including Repo Men and Fragments, though that hasn’t really dampened his job prospects. The talented veteran actor is set to join the cast of Vipaka, a voodoo horror film that Whitaker will also help produce and also play the lead.
Conversely, Anthony Mackie’s career continues to rise. Following his star-making turn in Oscar-winner The Hurt Locker a couple years back, Mackie has carved out a mix of indie and blockbuster movies including The Adjustment Bureau earlier this year with Real Steel, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and The Gangster Squad, among his forthcoming high profile projects.
Vipaka will follow Whitaker’s character, an contractor looking for direction in his life who visits a life coach (Mackie) with spiritual visions. Whitaker ends up kidnapping the life coach and terrorizing the coach’s family. The script is being penned by Shintaro Shimosawa who wrote the 2008 horror flick The Echo as well as co-produced the first two American-ized Grudge movies.
No word yet on a release date, but we’re curious, what do you think of this tandem?
Miley Cyrus’ God Comedy
Having just wrapped her two upcoming features So Undercover and LOL, Miley Cyrus is about to laugh it up with The Lord. Following a tweet showcasing her new finger tattoo that put the singer-actress on defense, the currently untitled God comedy will reportedly find Miley in the lead role and producing with her mom Trish. Few details have surfaced as far as the plot, but the movie is said to be about a broken promise to God. What do you think? Are you up for more Miley? And given her exploits of the last year or two, is this concept even appropriate?
Ben Foster Goes ‘Gotti’
While producers continue to work out something with Joe Pesci and his$3 million lawsuit against them, the Gotti movie has added another well-known actor to its cast – Ben Foster. Last seen opposite Jason Statham in The Mechanic earlier this year, Foster will portray John Gotti Jr., reuniting the actor with director Barry Levinson. The two worked together on Liberty Heights. Gotti: Three Generations begins shooting in January in New York and boasts an impressive cast which includes John Travolta, Al Pacino, Kelly Preston, Lindsay Lohan and maybe, Pesci.
