Peter Jackson to Direct ‘The Hobbit’

Peter Jackson

After cycling through various names these past few weeks, Deadline tells us that Peter Jackson has ultimately decided to direct back-to-back Hobbit films, and is currently negotiating his deal as we speak. There’s an uncomfortable feeling that Jackson was sort of backed up against a wall and forced to either direct the films himself or possibly watch the project fade into development hell. MGM and Warner Bros. both wanted Jackson to direct the films once Guillermo Del Toro stepped off, and though the director has come out and said that he doesn’t want to direct them, all of a sudden his tune has shifted. Nevertheless, fans of the franchise should be happy to have the original Lord of the Rings director back at the helm for one (or make that two) last adventures.

‘Paranormal Activity 2’ Teaser in Front of ‘Eclipse’
Various websites (including Shock) are reporting that a teaser trailer for Paranormal Activity 2 will play before prints of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse next week. Though the film just began production like a month ago, it’s a really smart move on Paramount’s part to get something (anything, really) in front of that massive Twilight audience and begin building the hype again.
Word is still out on whether Paranormal Activity 2 can do the kind of business its predecessor did at the box office – especially while fighting off the latest Saw film (arriving in theaters in 3D) -- but a head start in front of that Twilight crowd certainly won’t hurt. Paranormal Activity 2 and Saw VII 3D are both due out on October 22nd.
