Taylor Lautner Joins ‘Incarceron’ Adaptation
Scoop This: Taylor Lautner in ‘Incarceron’, Matt Damon to Join ‘Elysium’ and ‘Spider-Man Casting’
Twilight heartthrob Taylor Lautner has been busy racking up a number of film roles to fill up his schedule once he’s no longer needed for the Twilight franchise (currently filming the two-part series finale, Breaking Dawn). Lautner has already filmed the thriller Abduction, and he’s still set to star in a Stretch Armstrong movie, but you can now add one more film to his slate: An adaptation of the young adult novel Incarceron.
The sci-fi/fantasy film will find Lautner starring as a guy named Finn who wakes up in some vast prison that he doesn’t belong in. Meanwhile, outside the prison the warden’s daughter lives in a 17th century “world without time”, and is about to suffer through an arranged marriage until she discovers a key that could help rescue them both. Sounds intriguing – which one of Lautner’s upcoming projects are you looking forward to the most? Do you think he has a good shot at leading a film all on his own?
Matt Damon May Star in ‘District 9’ Director’s Next
We told you earlier in the week that Sharlto Copley would be reuniting with District 9 director Neill Blomkamp on the helmer’s next sci-fi spectacle, Elysium. Now Deadline reports that Matt Damon may be joining him. Unfortunately we know very little about the movie, which will carry a significantly larger budget than the $30 million given to District 9, only that it too will be financed independently of a major studio, which gives Blomkamp the freedom to do whatever it is he wants. Hopefully that means we’re in store for another smart, action-packed science fiction film from a guy whose debut movie wound up nominated for a best picture Oscar last year.
Spider-Man Cast Adds Chris Zylka as Flash Thompson
Not only will Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) have to square off against villains with supernatural powers, but he’ll also find himself the target of some bullying at school. Relative newcomer (to big blockbusters, that is) Chris Zylka has boarded the Spider-Man reboot to play Flash Thompson, a character from Spider-Man’s earlier days at high school that’s known primarily for bullying Peter Parker, Spidey’s alter-ego. What’s funny about Thompson is that he also idolizes Spider-Man, and so there’s certainly room for a little humor in this relationship, especially once Parker gains super powers. Spider-Man hits theaters in 2012.
