While out promoting a screening of his new horror flick Drag Me To Hell at the South by Southwest Film Festival, director Sam Raimi spoke a little bit about Spider-Man 4 – which just nabbed a release date of May 6, 2011. MTV managed to drag Raimi away from the scary to talk about the Spidey, and the man confirmed that they’re just working on Spider-Man 4 right now, despite earlier rumors that parts four and five would be shot at the same time.
As far as new characters go, Raimi noted: "We’re definitely talking about working from all the material in the comic books and nothing [invented] outside of that. All the characters or villain or villains, whatever we decide to do will be from Stan Lee’s creations or those that came after him."
But what about returning characters? We know Tobey Maguire is coming back – will he be smooching up Kristen Dunst again or someone else? Well, Dunst fans need not worry; Raimi says, "I can’t imagine making a 'Spider-Man' movie without Kirsten. Of course it can be done because Spider Man has existed without the character of Mary-Jane but she’s one of my favorite parts and it would be a shame not to have her in the picture. I’m hoping she’ll be in it and I’m planning on having a story with her in it."
Which villain(s) would you like to see Spidey square off against in the sequel?
Natalie Portman to Woo Thor?
The Thor rumors continue to crowd various movie blogs, but at least this latest one revolves around the Marvel superhero’s leading lady. Deadline Hollywood reports that producers are itching to have Natalie Portman star opposite (insert hot young stud here). Though there’s no mention of which character she’d play, most likely it would be Lady Sif, Thor’s lover. Check out a side-by-side image of Portman and Lady Sif below and let us know if you think the actress could pull it all off.
As far as who’ll be playing Thor, word is producers want an unknown in the role. The names currently being thrown around include Charlie Hunnam, Tom Hiddleston, Liam Hemsworth, Joel Kinnaman and the previously-reported frontrunner, Alexandar Skarsgard. Thor is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2011 … so you have plenty of time to get over the fact that Natalie Portman is too boring for a big, splashy Marvel movie.
Zac Efron Confirms He’s Jonny Quest
It’s been rumored for awhile now that High School Musical star Zac Efron was up for the lead role in a big-screen Jonny Quest movie, based on the popular 1960s Hanna-Barbera TV series. In addition to Efron, the Race to Witch Mountain duo of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and director Andy Fick are said to circling the project like a couple of sharks eying their pray. But back to Efron because he’s wayyy dreamy! The actor, who’s also been pegged to star in a Footloose remake, confirmed Jonny Quest but said it’s still too early for any kind of juicy information. Efron tells Moviehole, "It’s a long, long process. It’s so hard when people start leaking tidbits. They’re very, very early on [with it] – not that it won’t happen, it’s just early." When asked if it was still a couple of years away, Efron replied, "Most definitely."
So kick off those dancing shoes and tell us: Which project excites you more – a Footloose remake or Jonny Quest?
