Sci-Fi News: New ‘X-Men’ Photo, ‘Robocop’ Reboot Director and Summit’s Zombie Love Story

‘X-Men: First Class’ – New Photo

Empire has revealed a brand new photo from X-Men: First Class that features our first look at Emma Frost (January Jones) and Hellfire Club leader Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon) plotting out all sorts of evil deeds, we presume. Check it out; the film arrives on June 3rd. Hopefully we’ll get a another solid trailer soon.

Robocop Reboot May Have a Director
Now that things over at MGM are beginning to sort themselves out, the long-planned Robocop reboot can start kicking some dust around again. Word from Deadline is that Elite Squad director Jose Padilha is now being eyed to take over the director’s chair on the film, which was once supposed to be helmed by Darren Aronofsky.
Those here in the states may not know Padilha, though the Brazilian director’s two Elite Squad films have quickly become the two most important films to ever come out of Brazil (with the second becoming the country’s highest grossing film of all time). The first Elite Squad has a lot more action than the second (which is more political), but both prove the guy knows his way around an action picture. Trust me when I say Robocop would be in great hands.
Summit Goes from Vampires to Zombies
Now that they’re wrapping up their Twilight franchise, Summit still wants to be in the business of teen monster love stories, so much so that they’ve cast up-and-comer Nicholas Hoult in the film Warm Bodies, based on the novel by Isaac Marion. Apparently the book follows a depressed zombie who befriends the girlfriend of one of his victims.
Hmmm … now I’m not a fan of zombie movies that don’t follow the rules of zombie movies, so we’ll have to see how this one plays out. Thoughts? Can they make the zombie-human romance actually work, or is the thought of it just, well, nasty?
