Saoirse Ronan to Star in Disney's Snow White Re-Imagining

While the bulk of the attention concerning Snow White has been Mirror Mirror and this summer's Snow White and the Huntsman, Disney has quietly been tinkering with their own re-imagined version of the tale.

A while back, their version was said to be a kung-fu take on the story with Natalie Portman, Michael Chabon and The Matrix fight choreographer Yuen Woo-ping all being involved at some point. Now with a re-polished script from Jayson Rothwell (Malice in Wonderland)and Michael DeBruyn and Austrailian director Michael Gracey now on board to helm the project, it seems this latest re-imagining is ready to roll.
Saoirse Ronan will star in Order of Seven, which attempts to ditch the narrative ties with the fairy tale. Instead the story will center on Olivia Sinclair (Ronan), a19th century ex-patriot who seeks refuge with a group of ancient outlaw warriors. An evil empress rises and Sinclair helps the warrior reclaim their destiny.
So essentially, Snow White becomes an ex-patriot, Evil Queen becomes an Evil Sorcerer and the rest of the movie writes itself without being another Snow White movie, even though the conflict is essentially the same.
Order of Seven will begin shooting this fall and is produced by Gunn Films (Freaky Friday, Bedtime Stories) in case you were curious as to what kind of tone the movie would take. After all, this is a Disney tentpole movie and merchandise needs to be sold.
More importantly though, what do you think. Is there room for another Snow White?
