Sam Claflin Cast as Finnick Odair in 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire'
Sam Claflin has won the Hunger Games casting lottery. Lionsgate confirmed this morning that the handsome young actor has been cast as Finnick Odair in Catching Fire, director Francis Lawrence’s follow up to the smash movie adaptation.
Claflin’s name has been linked to the coveted role for weeks now, though this is the first time that the studio has set in stone the fact that he’ll play the charismatic Odair, a Hunger Games victor from District 4 who fights alongside Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) as the story progresses.
The actor is no stranger to major franchises. His first massive role was that of Philip in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Earlier this summer, he appeared alongside Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth in Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman.
He’ll move on to film Catching Fire this fall. Lionsgate will release the anticipated sequel on Nov. 22, 2013.
But what do you think of the hire, Hunger Games fans? Is Claflin the right choice for Finnick? Do you have to wait and see how he performs in the role? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
