Considering the star power behind most Marvel superhero movies, I was surprised when they began filling Thor with relative unknowns, like Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Tom Hiddleston (Loki) as the film's primary characters. Finally they brought Natalie Portman on to play Thor's love interest Jane Foster, and now it seems like the Powers That Be are finally beginning to stack this sucker with a few big-time names as AICN reports that both Robert DeNiro and Jude Law may have snagged a couple roles in the film, due in theaters on May 20, 2011.
The report comes from the German version of GQ magazine, where actor Matthias Schweighöfer revealed that not only had he tried out for a part, but that both DeNiro and Law had already joined the cast. It's important to note, however, that we haven't received any official word on this…yet…though when (and if) it comes; it'll be fun to see who these heavyweights are playing. DeNiro in a Marvel movie? I love it!
In addition to the DeNiro and Law rumors, Movieline discovered during an interview with Dominic Cooper (Mamma Mia, An Education) that he has also been approached for a part in Thor. Which part, exactly? Well, rumor has it he may up for the role of Fandral, who's one of the Warriors Three – a trio of adventurers from Thor's hometown who usually provided comic relief and side-adventures in the comics. Could Jude Law and Robert DeNiro also be playing two of the Warriors Three? We'll bring you more news as it arrives…but in the meantime, what do you think about these potential casting moves?
