'Revolutionary Road' Writer to Pen 'Lone Ranger'

Johnny DeppRemember when Johnny Depp was announced to play the role of Tonto in The Lone Ranger? That was almost 18 months ago, and the project's been shelved ever since, probably to make way for Alice in Wonderland and Pirates 4 hype. Now, THR is reporting that Disney is in negotiations with Justin Haythe to write the script, which means there's a renewed interest in the Jerry Bruckheimer produced movie. Haythe, in case you're wondering, adapted the screenplay for Revolutionary Road – one of last year's snubbed Oscar films.

The Lone Ranger origin story centers on a group of Texas rangers, attacked by a group of outlaws. One of the rangers survives and is nursed back to health by an American Indian named Tonto, who eventually becomes the Lone Ranger's sidekick. Once a draft of the script is hammered out, casting announcements should follow. Do you think Haythe can successfully turn this one into a blockbuster? And who could play the Lone Ranger without having Depp completely steal the show?
