'[REC] 4: Apocalypse' Teases the Return of a Feisty Heroine

[REC] 4 Apocalypse

Production on the fourth and final installment of Spanish zombie series [REC] is underway, and new set photos suggest that feisty heroine Angela Vidal (played by Manuela Velasco) will play a more deadly role than ever. The original film, which was remade in English as Quarantine, followed TV reporter Angela as she accompanied a firefighting crew into an apartment building that was infested with zombies.

The sequel, [REC] 2, picked up the story moments later, and Angela once again was a pivotal figure. Angela was left out of [REC] 3: Genesis, which dispensed almost entirely with the found-footage perspective that was utilized in the first two films, and moved the series into a wacky mix of telenovela-style melodramatics, comedy and hard-core bloodshed as zombies invaded a wedding reception. [REC] 4: Apocalypse promises to bring Angela back to center stage, as she is evacuated from the infected apartment building to an offshore oil tanker. But she is harboring a deadly secret that will force everyone on the ship to face their mortality.

The film is heading to theaters in Spain in October 2014, and we fully expect that it will come to the U.S. shortly thereafter. A complete set of new behind-the-scenes photos can be viewed at Dread Central, but you can get a good feeling for what's in store below. We also have the poster and the bloody, gory, very much NSFW teaser trailer, which will reintroduce you to the beloved and deadly Angela.
