We've been getting snippets of news here and there about Star Wars: Episode VII, but the biggest missing piece of the puzzle thus far is if the original stars who played Luke (Mark Hamill), Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford) will come back in some capacity.
THR has gotten wind that at least one original player is coming back, and it could be a clue to bigger news. The site is reporting "via sources" that 69-year-old British actor Peter Mayhew will reprise his role as the Wookiee Chewbacca, after rumors surfaced that he canceled a Texas comic convention in May due to "filming." The timing would be right, since Disney chairman Alan Horn confirmed earlier this month that shooting had started and casting was still being worked out. Said CEO Bob Iger in March at a shareholders meeting, "There will be some very familiar faces along with a trio of new young leads."
Since Chewie and Han Solo pretty much go hand in... paw, this could be a good indicator of some major casting news to come. As of now, we only know Girls star Adam Driver will play the film's villain. Episode VII comes to theaters December 18, 2015.
