Producers Guild Announces Nominations, 'Dragon Tattoo' Bumps 'Drive' From Nominee List

With the Academy Awards just seven weeks away, we're starting to get a better sense of who the top contenders are for the Best Picture category, come February 26.

This morning, The Producers Guild of America announced the ten motion pictures vying for the Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year Award. The list contains a run-down of the usual suspects, with perhaps The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo as the lone surprise. Die-hard Drive fans will surely object to their coveted movie being snubbed from this list.
The nominees are:
The Artist, Bridesmaids, The Descendants, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Help, Hugo, The Ides of March, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball and War Horse.
The five movies vying for the animated feature award are The Adventures of Tintin, Cars 2, Kung Fu Panda 2, Puss in Boots and Rango.
Vying for the documentary feature award are Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest, Bill Cunningham New York, Project Nim, Senna and The Union. Three of the five movies scored 92% or higher on RottenTomatoes (Beats and Union were tomato-less). The Guild thankfully chose quality over the highest grossing doc of 2011 – Justin Bieber's Never Say Never, although the third highest grossing doc, Born to Be Wild, which also scored a 98% freshness rating was snubbed.
Winners will be announced at the Producers Guild Awards on January 21.
Now that you've seen the list of movie nominees, any movies you thought should have been nominated that didn't get a nod? Any thoughts on who will win in the three film categories?
