Poll: You Pick the Box Office Winner (4/29-5/1)

Close call last weekend as Rio just barely managed to squeak out a win over Tyler Perry and his lucrative Madea franchise. This week is a fun one, as it marks the last weekend before the official summer movie season kicks off with Marvel’s Thor. Even though we’re not technically in summer yet, this weekend certainly has that sweet, blockbustery feel with fast cars, returning toons and a bunch of teens heading off to prom. Let’s see what we’ve got …

What’s The Scoop: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and their gang of underground racers return for this fifth installment in the uber-successful action franchise. This time the boys square off against their toughest enemy yet, a brutal (and big) law enforcement-type played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: From the cars to the men to the women to the action scenes, if this movie were any hotter it’d catch on fire before the previews even started running.
What’s The Scoop: The characters from some of your favorite fairy tales return for another adventure that involves Red Riding Hood and The Wolf heading off on an quest to examine the mysterious disappearance of Hansel and Gretel.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: Hard to bet against an animated film when they’ve been cleaning house at the box office these past couple of months.
What’s The Scoop: From Disney comes this ensemble piece about a group of kids preparing for their high school prom. Think High School Musical meets Can’t Hardly Wait.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: It’s definitely that time of year, with prom season in full swing. Can Prom catch a little of the High School Musical rush and soar at the box office? We shall see …
What’s The Scoop: Ex-Superman Brandon Routh returns to the big screen in this horror-comedy based on a graphic novel about a supernatural private eye who fights monsters in the Louisiana bayou.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: Those itching for summer superheroes may see this as a tempting appetizer.

My Prediction: Though it’s difficult to bet against Hoodwinked Too, Fast Five is a huge fan favorite, not to mention the fact that it’s Fandango’s top advance ticket-seller of the year so far. So I’m going with Fast Five to finally break the animation streak.
My Pick of the Week: Going to mirror my prediction and recommend Fast Five. Those looking for a fun escape movie that’s hot, sexy and exciting should find plenty to enjoy in this fifth go-round with the boys and their cars.
Now it’s your turn to pick this week’s box office winner. Sound off below and feel free to expand on your thoughts in the comments.
