Parents who sought out Chris Columbus’ 2010 Percy Jackson adaptation likely are looking forward to the sequel, because the original was a fun and fast-paced family adventure that tapped into a rich mythology, provided by author Rick Riordan’s books.
Percy, who was played by up-and-coming talent Logan Lerman, learned he was a demigod … a son of Poseidon, the God of the Sea. The movie did OK at box offices, but 20th Century Fox realized the franchise potential, and went ahead with an adaptation of the second novel, The Sea of Monsters.
And that’s exactly what you get in the first official trailer, which made its debut on MTV. The clip has a Cyclops, speeding cabs, a gigantic whirlpool and Nathan Fillion. Amazing! Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters sails into theaters on Aug. 16. Here’s the trailer:
