'Percy Jackson' Trailer Thrills with a Cyclops, Killer Sharks and … Nathan Fillion?!

Parents who sought out Chris Columbus’ 2010 Percy Jackson adaptation likely are looking forward to the sequel, because the original was a fun and fast-paced family adventure that tapped into a rich mythology, provided by author Rick Riordan’s books. 
Percy, who was played by up-and-coming talent Logan Lerman, learned he was a demigod … a son of Poseidon, the God of the Sea. The movie did OK at box offices, but 20th Century Fox realized the franchise potential, and went ahead with an adaptation of the second novel, The Sea of Monsters.
And that’s exactly what you get in the first official trailer, which made its debut on MTV. The clip has a Cyclops, speeding cabs, a gigantic whirlpool and Nathan Fillion. Amazing! Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters sails into theaters on Aug. 16. Here’s the trailer:
Percy Jackson wasn’t the only family thriller to drop a tantalizing tease on audiences today. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones  follows up its WonderCon presentation in Anaheim over the weekend by releasing the trailer that had fans buzzing. He have it for you below: 

Mortal Instruments adapts Cassandra Clare’s YA novel, with Lily Collins and Jaime Campbell Bower cast in the leads. We have character posters from our WonderCon coverage. The movie, directed by Harald Zwart, will be in theaters on Aug. 23.
