Snow White and the Huntsman Do you hear that? It's the sound of either Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen chewing--nay, devouring--the scenery, or audiences' jaws hitting the floor at the notion that glowering Kristen Stewart earns the title of "fairest in the land" over Ms. Theron. Either way, this movie is a hoot to watch Theron swirl and shout lines like "I shall give this wretched world the queen it deserves" to her weird, effeminate brother and the scene (movie?)-stealing seven dwarfs that offer a little relief from the grim proceedings. The effects and production and costume design are outstanding. Extras: Featurette "A New Legend Is Born," director commentary (DVD/BD); the BD adds a 360-degree set tour and three featurettes on reimagining the fairy tale, the citizens of the kingdom, and the movie's effects.

Extras: Two featurettes, "The Dudes Unscrewed" and "What to Expect and the Pregnancy Bible," deleted scenes (DVD/BD).
The Loved Ones Australian director Sean Byrnes' little horror film about a spurned teenager and the revenge she and her dad take out on the guy who turns down her prom invite came out in his homeland two years ago, and sadly got a very limited release in the States this year. If you're a horror fan his take on the tortured-captive tale is a don't-miss; if you're a fan of good filmmaking in general you'll find this a pleasant surprise, with good acting, characters you like and unexpected twists--though it's certainly not for the squeamish. Extras: Unrated version, interviews with the stars and effects supervisor (DVD)
