Odd Couples in the Movies: Who Are Your Favorites?

As an avid movie watcher, one of the things I love to see is an on-screen pairing that seems too good to be true. You know, the ones where opposites attract. One such couple is Tonto (Johnny Depp) and the Lone Ranger (Armie Hammer) in the fresh release The Lone Ranger. In celebration of the film, check out some more of my favorite on-screen odd couples:

Peter and Ethan in Due Date
Peter (Robert Downey Jr.) is a serious business man who is just trying to get home in time for his child's birth. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, he ends up having to road trip with Ethan (Zach Galifianakis) on a journey that is hard to watch and yet hysterical at the same time. There could not be two more opposite people that have to be in one another's company. The road to their odd friendship will have you laughing continuously.

Merida and her mother in Brave
Set to be betrothed, Merida (Kelly Macdonald) wants to make decisions for herself and not follow down the same road as her mother. Angry about their disagreement, Merida has her mother (Emma Thompson) turned into a bear. Working together to set things right lets them find out just how much they have in common.

Vincent and Julius in Twins
Twin brothers Vincent and Julius are opposites in every way. One (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is tall, tan, honest and very athletic. The other (Danny DeVito) is short, devious and well… not so athletic.  Julius goes in search of his long-lost brother only to find out he is a criminal and in some trouble. Through the trails they face together, they bond and become the brothers they should have been from the start.

Hans Solo and Chewbacca in Star Wars
I don't think there are very many explanations needed to point out the differences in these two. Just because they look opposite and odd to the eye doesn't mean they don't work well together, as they proved to Hansbacca fans everywhere.

Some of the best movies feature main characters that are polar opposites, and more often than not, those movies leave a lesson for us to learn. Those are just a few of my favorite odd couples and I, for one, am looking forward to seeing Tonto and the Lone Ranger in action. Who are some of your favorite odd couples?
