Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Star Wars: The idea of a new television show set in the Star Wars universe is in active discussions between ABC and Lucasfilm. According to Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment Group, "If you feel Marvel’s secretive, [Lucasfilm] takes it to a whole other level … [Talks] are ongoing. We don’t have an official timeline yet.” Dungey declined to say whether a live-action or animated show is under consideration, though the animated Star Wars Rebels series is already on Disney XD. Changeling

Murder on the Orient Express: Back in June, we heard that Angelina Jolie Pitt (above in Changeling) might star in a new big-screen version of Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express, to be directed by Kenneth Branagh. But now comes word that the actress will not be involved with the project after all. Rumor has it that Charlize Theron is being eyed for a role. Branagh is still set to portray famed detective Hercule Poirot in the ensemble mystery, which takes place on a luxurious train during a snowstorm. [Variety]

 

Midnight Special

Red Sparrow: News broke last year that Jennifer Lawrence was considering a starring role in Red Sparrow, a sexy modern spy thriller, possibly under the direction of Francis Lawrence (Hunger Games). A new report indicates that both the actress and the director are confirmed and that Joel Edgerton (Midnight Special, above) is in early talks to join the cast. [Deadline]

 

Land of Mine

Land of Mine Trailer: A new trailer for Land of Mine establishes a gloomy atmosphere as a group of German prisoners of war are compelled to dig up two million land mines with their bare hands at the conclusion of World War II. The movie will open in theaters later this year. [Sony Pictures Classics]
