News Briefs: New 'Frozen' Short Coming; 'How to Train Your Dragon 3' Gets New Release Date

Frozen

Frozen Fever: Disney announced a new animated short film, based on its megasuccess Frozen. Titled Frozen Fever, the short will revolve around Anna's birthday, as Elsa and Kristoff aim to give her "the best celebration ever." Feature directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck will return to helm the short; Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez also have a new original song up their sleeves. It's not yet clear if the short will open with a feature in theaters or debut on TV. [Variety]

 

CHiPS / Hit and Run

CHiPS: Dax Shepard (Hit and Run) and Michael Pena will star as motorcycle cops in a big-screen version of CHiPS, the venerable TV show that starred Larry Wilcox and Erik Estrada. The series ran for six seasons, from the fall of 1977 to the summer of 1983. Shepard will write and direct the project for Warner Bros., which is described as in the vein of Bad Boys and Lethal Weapon. A professional race driver, Shepard expects to do his own vehicular stunts. [Deadline]

 

How to Train Your Dragon 2

How to Train Your Dragon 3: Speaking of popular animated movies, the third installment of the How to Train Your Dragon series has been delayed until 2017, pushing back its release date by a year. Both writer-director Dean DeBlois and producer Bonnie Arnold are returning, with Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera and Cate Blanchett also set to return in the voice cast. How to Train Your Dragon 2 just crossed the $600 million mark at the worldwide box office, making it the highest grossing animated movie of the year. [Coming Soon]

 

Cymbeline

Cymbeline Trailer: Ethan Hawke leads a great cast in a new trailer for Cymbeline, an adaptation of Shakespeare set in the modern day, featuring dirty cops and a drug-dealing biker gang. Ed Harris, Milla Jovovich, John Leguizamo, Penn Badgley, Dakota Johnson and Anton Yelchin also star. The movie is due in theaters in the spring of 2015. [MovieClips]
