News Briefs: 'Fifty Shades Darker' Adds Supporting Cast

Fifty Shades Darker: Robinne Lee (above left) and Fay Masterson (above right) have joined the cast of Fifty Shades Darker, which is now in production. Lee will portray an executive at the company run by Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan); no details were provided on the role that will be played by Masterson. Dakota Johnson stars as Anastasia Steele in the first sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey; it's due out in theaters on February 10, 2017. [Variety]

 

Out of the Furnace

Hostiles: Christian Bale and director Scott Cooper, who teamed together to make Out of the Furnace (above), will reunite for Hostiles. It's a Western about a "legendary Army captain" who leads a Cheyenne war chief, his family, and a young widow on a long and dangerous journey from New Mexico to Montana in 1892. Production is expected to get underway in July. [Variety]

 

Death Race

Death Race 2050: Legendary filmmaker and production executive Roger Corman is producing a sequel to his 1975 road-racing movie Death Race 2000. Titled Death Race 2050, it stars Manu Bennett and Malcolm McDowell. Evidently it bears no relationship to the 2008 remake Death Race, starring Jason Statham (above), or its prequel Death Race 2. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny Trailer: A new trailer for the sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sets up its plot involving lost love and a legendary sword. Michelle Yeoh reprises her role from the first movie, joined by Donnie Yen and Jason Scott Lee. It will be available to watch on Netflix on February 26. [Movieclips]

 

Florence Foster Jenkins

Florence Foster Jenkins Trailer: Meryl Streep stars as a wealthy heiress who wants to become an opera singer in Florence Foster Jenkins. As the first trailer demonstrates, there's only one problem: she has a terrible voice. Hugh Grant, Simon Helberg and Rebecca Ferguson also star; the movie will open in theaters later this year.
