What If Trailer: The new international trailer for What If showcases Daniel Radcliffe in his first romantic comedy. He plays a lovelorn fellow who falls for the beguiling Zoe Kazan; unfortunately for him, she's already in a relationship. Can they still be friends? Adam Driver and Rafe Spall also star in the movie, which is known internationally as The F Word; it's out in the U.S. on August 1. [MovieClips]



 

Oliver Stone / Edward Snowden

The Snowden Files: Oliver Stone, who has often tackled controversial subjects, plans to make a movie about Edward Snowden, the National Security Agency whistleblower. Stone considers Snowden a "hero" and will adapt Luke Harding's book The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World's Most Wanted Man. Stone will be competing with the producers of the James Bond movies, who have made their own plans with Sony to adapt Glenn Greenwald's No Place to Hide: Edward Snowden, the NSA, and the U.S. Surveillance State. Monster Hunt

Monster Hunt: Will this friendly looking creature be the next Shrek? Raman Hui certainly hopes so. Hui, the character designer for Shrek and codirector of Shrek the Third, unveiled the design for his latest creation, Woba, who will star in Monster Hunt, due out in Asia in February 2015. The live-action project is a family-friendly fantasy about Woba, who seeks to bring peace between monsters and humans; the character will be animated for the movie. [Variety]
 

 

3D Robotic Drones - Peninsula Press

Drones: Seven production companies have petitioned the Federal Aviation Administration for permission to use drones in the filmmaking process, and the FAA says it will consider the requests. The MPAA supports the petitions, stating in part: "This new tool for storytellers will allow for creative and exciting aerial shots." The FAA is not expected to rule until next year, but the prospect certainly raises a number of exciting possibilities, especially for action thrillers. [Los Angeles Times]
