News Bites: Scarlett Johansson's Strange Superpowers; 'Harry Potter' Gets Spin-off Trilogy; 'Dawn of Apes' TV Spot

Lucy: Scarlett Johansson stars as a drug mule who accidentally becomes superpowered when she swallows her illicit cargo of experimental drugs in Luc Besson's Lucy, due out in theaters on August 8. The first photo from the movie has been released, showing the character is handy with a gun; the action thriller also stars Morgan Freeman. [EW.com]

 

Harry Potter Spin-off Trilogy Planned: Last September we heard that J.K. Rowling is writing Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them for the big screen, the first in a series planned by Warner Bros. Now studio head Kevin Tsujihara has reportedly confirmed that the series will be "three megamovies," set in the Harry Potter universe about 70 years before the young wizard arrives on the scene. Mel Gibson Returns to Action in Blood Father: Mel Gibson, who has not played the lead role in a movie since 2012's direct-to-video Get the Gringo, is in talks to star in the action thriller Blood Father. He would play an ex-con who reunites with his estranged teenage daughter to protect her from murderous drug dealers. Jean-Francois Richet (French gangster epic Mesrine) is set to direct. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes TV Spot: A new TV spot for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes identifies, via a chilling voice-over narration, exactly why the apes are so scary, and why they have such an advantage on a ravaged Earth. There's also a new poster (see it below) to go along with the footage, too. The movie opens on July 11. [20th Century Fox]
