News Bites: Indiana Jones Recasting; Meryl Streep Teaming with Diablo Cody; More

American Hustle / Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull

Indiana Jones: The latest rumor concerning Indiana Jones is that a younger actor might be cast instead of Harrison Ford in the role if the fifth installment isn't ready by a certain date. That's pretty nebulous, but not really surprising; Ford will turn 72 this summer, and retirement from the role is inevitable. The new wrinkle is that Bradley Cooper is at "the top of the list" of actors being considered; also, Frank Darabont has reportedly pitched an idea for the sequel. [Latino Review]

Ricky and the Flash: Meryl Streep is attached to star in a new project written by Diablo Cody (Juno). Streep would play a mother who left her family to pursue a career as a rock star; decades later, she attempts to reconnect with her estranged children. Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs), who worked with Streep on the remake of The Manchurian Candidate, is attached to direct. While no deal has been made yet for financing the movie, it certainly sounds like a very potent package. [The Wrap]

Men vs. Women: Lest you think that only Hollywood studios remake movies from other countries, two episodic Italian-language romantic comedies will be remade as one movie in China. Romantic comedies are quite popular in China, spurring the Mandarin-language remake, which will combine episodes from both movies -- Men vs. Women and its sequel, Women vs. Men -- focusing on ones that will translate well culturally in China. Into the Storm Teaser: We just saw the first frightening images from Into the Storm, which follows a storm chaser and a meterologist on a day when Oklahoma's so-called "Tornado Alley" earns its nickname. Now the first teaser has blown our way. Sarah Wayne Callies, Matt Walsh, and Richard Armitage star; the movie is heading to theaters on August 8. [Warner Bros.]
