News Bites: Disney Is Making a Live-Action 'Beauty and the Beast'

Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast: Bill Condon will direct a live-action version of Disney's animated modern classic Beauty and the Beast. The director previously helmed the final two installments of The Twilight Saga, as well as the musical Dreamgirls. Disney launched Maleficent successfully last weekend, and is also planning to release live-action versions of its animated films Cinderella and The Jungle Book in 2015. [Variety]

Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park: As we anticipate Jurassic World in 2015, it's a good time to look backward to the first installment of the dinosaur series. Jurassic Park, released in 1992, was filmed in part on the gorgeous island of Kauai, Hawaii; as the photos above reveal, however, very little remains of the iconic entrance gate all these years later. The Other Guys

Daddy's Home: Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell made for a great action-comedy team in 2010's The Other Guys, and now Paramount wants to reunite them in Daddy's Home. Ferrell would play a "mild-mannered radio executive who strives to become the best stepdad ever to his wife’s two children," a relationship that is threatened when cool biological father Wahlberg reenters the picture. Sean Anders and John Morris (Horrible Bosses 2) may direct. [Deadline]

The Giver

The Giver Trailer: The visually arresting new trailer for The Giver is the best one yet; setting up a dystopian future in which Meryl Streep serves as Chief Elder. The trailer also explains the role of the title character, played by Jeff Bridges; Brenton Thwaites stars as a very special young man. The movie hits theaters on August 15. [Yahoo]
