New TV Spot for 'Gone Girl' Keeps the Murder Mystery Alive

There's still more than a month left before Gone Girl comes out, and we're already wrapped up in its mystery. Did Ben Affleck's character kill his wife, played by Rosamund Pike? Did Neil Patrick Harris do it? Did Scoot McNairy do it? (Did we do it?) Yet the thing is, while the trailers and a new TV spot keep us intrigued with wonder about whodunit, that's not the sole reason to be excited about this movie. No way that director David Fincher would make a movie that's just about the endpoint. He made Zodiac, after all. And even The Game and Se7en are about more than their twist endings.

Gone Girl looks like a winner in part because of its cast, and in this new TV spot we see a little more of McNairy than we had in the past, making us curious not just about his character's involvement in the murder mystery but also in the actor's involvement in the ensemble.

Check it out below.

Rosamund Pike recently revealed that she modeled her character on a real person, which is the sort of thing that always piques our interest, partly for the sake of trivia and partly as a way of thinking about the role as we're watching. According to an Entertainment Weekly interview, she based her Amy somewhat on Caroline Bessette-Kennedy, who died in 1999 in a plane crash along with husband John F. Kennedy Jr.

"There’s not much out there about her. You never heard her speak,” she told the magazine. “You just see those pictures of her hiding her face. The way she moved—I used quite a lot of that body language and mood... She’s the dream girl. That’s what Amy was for Nick. She’s the one you can’t get out of your head because she’s perfect."

Gone Girl, based on the best-selling novel by Gillian Flynn, opens October 3.
